Things to See in the Old Town of Conil de la Frontera

Just like Conil de la Frontera itself, the old town is relatively small. Nevertheless, there are several interesting places to discover during a leisurely stroll through the town.

The Mercado de Abastos is the local market, offering everything from fresh fish and meat to fruit and vegetables. Entre Vientos, meanwhile, is a market with stalls selling a range of handmade and locally produced goods.

  • Mercado de Abastos

  • Entre Vientos

  • Barrio de los Pescadores

  • Mirador del Ayuntamiento

  • Paseo Marítimo

  • Parque de la Atalaya

  • Arco de la Villa

  • Torre de Guzmán

The Barrio de los Pescadores is best explored on a guided tour. There is plenty to learn about the history of Conil de la Frontera, and the experience can also be interesting for children.

At the Mirador del Ayuntamiento, you will be rewarded with lovely views across the town. A walk along the Paseo Marítimo also provides plenty of opportunities to take photographs, including the old cannon of Conil de la Frontera and the Escultura Jabeguero sculpture.

Both are located close to the Parque de la Atalaya, where you can take a short break and get your first glimpse of some of Conil de la Frontera's many beaches. We will take a closer look at these below.

As you explore the town, you will come across several historic arches. One of the best known and most photographed is the Arco de la Villa. Together with the Torre de Guzmán, it is one of the historic highlights in the centre of Conil de la Frontera.

The Best Beaches in Conil de la Frontera

During a holiday in Conil de la Frontera, you will have plenty of beaches to choose from. There is also lots to discover along the coastline.

You will notice that the closer a beach is to the town centre, particularly Playa de los Bateles, the busier it tends to be during the summer. If you prefer a little more peace and quiet, it is therefore worth heading further away from the centre and finding a spot for your parasol there.

Another thing to know about the beaches around Conil de la Frontera is that you will find small coves to the north-west, while the south-east is characterised by longer stretches of sandy beach.

Here is a list of the places where you can enjoy the sea within walking distance of the town:

  • Playa de los Bateles

  • Playa de La Fontanilla

  • Playa Fuente del Gallo

  • Cala de los Pitones

  • Cala Puntalejo

  • Cala Camacho

  • Cala del Aceite

  • Playa Punta Lejos

  • Playa Castilnovo

While playa simply means beach, the term cala refers to a cove or small bay.

There are often opportunities to hire equipment for various water sports at the beaches. Booking in advance is usually not necessary. You can simply visit the local providers and, depending on availability, get what you need immediately or after a short wait.
